Vol. XXV, no. 1    THE THOMAS J. GARLAND LIBRARY

Fall 2014

This is the 25th year of publication for this little library magazine. On behalf of the entire library staff  (Jack, Kathy, Mary, Crystal, Charles, Carolyn, Lelia, Elaine, and Jonathan), readers old and new and regardless of location are invited to join us in person or online as Tusculum College continues another exciting school year.

About our Masthead

Your editor is occasionally asked why we have maintained the “Reel n’ Page” masthead and name for our newsletter these past many years and have not moved to some new computer-generated, full-color identity. The reason is tradition. Our logo was drawn specifically for this publication by the distinguished Appalachian artist John Bond.  We will keep it at least a while longer.

[spoiler style=”2″ title=”CHANGE OF DIRECTION”]

With the ongoing  makeover of Garland Library’s webpages initiated in summer 2014, it is now possible for electronic visitors to obtain all of the library’s operational news directly from its home page and library blog. Announcements, public performance notices, new database arrivals, tutorials, personnel staff happenings, and so forth are all there chronicled (in living color and often with photographs). Upon reflection, it makes no sense to repeat all of that in a newsletter.

What is not easily available in one location on the webpages are the library’s many statistics.  In every number of the Reel & Page published through the school year, we have in the past provided our most recent usage statistics, occasionally catching up for months unavailable  (lag time for the latest is usually a month or so). Comparison figures between the current school year and that preceding are published in either the April issue or a special May issue.  The 2013-14 comparison is in the May 2014 special edition, found at < http://garland.tusculum.edu/reel-n-page-summer-2014 > . Previous years’ worth of the newsletter (including statistics) have been maintained and will soon be published in an archive.

Reel & Page will now become a vehicle devoted exclusively to the promulgation of Garland Library usage statistics. All of the data past readers have found before will be included (except when unavailable), along with a few new items. The magazine will appear quarterly with statistics provided therein for those months in the interim since the last issue. Additional detail begins with the October issue.
